ANSWERS TO LIFE’S QUESTIONS
A Bible correspondence course
Lesson #6 How Should I Live?

Simply stated, “You should live in a way that pleases God.”

But, how does one determine what pleases God?

The answer to that goes back to Lesson One. In the Bible God has described how He wants us to live.

Read Titus 2:12 “Teaching us that, denying _________________ and worldly ______________, we should live

_______________, ________________________, and ___________, in this present world.”

Salvation is not simply an event, it is the beginning of a new life, a life which involves spiritual growth.

To facilitate that growth, we need to spend time learning what God expects of us and that learning comes from the study of the God’s Word (the Bible).

Reading, studying, and memorizing the Bible are especially important activities for a new Christian. Remember, God’s Word is the most dependable source from which we can know what God wants us to be and to do.

The following verse tells us how and where the new Christian must begin.

Read I Peter 2:2: “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the ____________, that ye may grow thereby.”

Eventually, we need more substantial spiritual food.

Read Hebrews 5:13-14: “13For everyone that useth milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”

Even mature Christians need to spend time with the Bible. The Apostle Paul reminded his disciple Timothy that the Scripture was given to us so “that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” (I Timothy 3:16) The word “perfect” in this verse means “mature.”

We can grow spiritually by reading the Bible privately, but spending time with other Christians, especially during times of public instruction and worship, will also help us to grow spiritually. Church attendance is a major factor for spiritual growth and encouragement.

That is the kind of activity that is referred to in Hebrews 3:13 “But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.”

(Hebrews 10:25a) “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another…”

Just be sure to attend a church where the Bible is clearly taught.

Before Jesus returned to Heaven, He told His disciples what He wanted them to do.

Read Matthew 28:19-20: “19Go ye therefore, and _____________ all nations, ___________________________ them in the

name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have

commanded you:”

After accepting God’s salvation, He expects His children to publicly declare their allegiance to Jesus Christ by being baptized.

Contrary to what many people believe, and some churches teach, there is no spiritual merit in being baptized. By putting your faith in Jesus Christ, you are saved for eternity whether or not you are baptized.

However, Jesus expects His followers to be baptized. Baptism is an act of obedience and a public witness to the fact that they have put their faith in Him.

Living as God would have us live is a continual process of yielding to His will.

Read Romans 12:1-2: “1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your _________________ a

living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye

___________________ by the renewing of your _____________, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and

perfect, will of God.”

God expects His children to be good people, but He also expects them to do good things.

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)

In the following passage the word “behavior” or “life” could be used instead of the word “conversation.” “Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs that ye stand fast in one spirit with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.” (Philippians 1:27)

Part of living in a way that “becometh the gospel” means avoiding the sinful actions and attitudes that the world has to offer.

Read I John 2:15: “Love not the __________________, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the

__________________, the love of the ___________________ is not in him.”

We live in a world that is an enemy with God. That is part of the sin nature that all humans inherited from Adam. As children of God, then, that puts us on the world’s list of enemies, but that need not threaten us.

(I Peter 4:14) “If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.”

God wants His children to avoid immorality: “3But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; 4Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks” (Ephesians 5:3-4).

Read I Peter 1:15-16: “15But as he which hath called you is __________, so be ye _____________ in all manner of

conversation; 16Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”

Even our speech should honor the Lord Jesus Christ.

“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers” (Ephesians 4:29).

In spite of the fact that God does not want His children to be like the world, He does expect them to be His witnesses in the world.

(Matthew 5:16 ) “Let your light so shine before all men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
